Zero Mass Water has produced a solar panel, named Source, that produce clean energy as well as fresh drinking water. Similar to how an air conditioner produces water drops, the panels is able to collect water vapor from hot air.
Water is collected from thin air, evaporated to remove pollutants using the energy produced from the solar panel. The water collected will then flow out of the faucet placed on the side of the panel.
According to the company, each panel can produce enough water for a family of four. Last year, Zero Mass Water collected USD $7 million to support some of its pilot installations in Jordan, Ecuador, Mexico, and the United States.
The company’s CEO Cody Friesen told Fast CoExist that the panel was started to provide water for “everyone, everywhere.”
“Everybody’s heard about the latest nanofilter this … or whatever the latest pump technology is,” he said. “None of those end up being sort of the leapfrog technology that addresses the fact that drinking water is a fundamental human right, and yet we have one person dying every 10 seconds from waterborne illness on the planet.”
